Joe Heiler MSPT has been practicing physical therapy since 1998, and is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He was one of the first in the country to become certified in the Selective Functional Movement Assessment, and has also been certified as a Functional Movement Specialist, certified in Functional Dry Needling, USA Weight Lifting Level 1 Sports Performance Coach, and Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Level 2 Golf Medical Professional and Level 2 Fitness Instructor.
Joe is certified in the use of Graston Technique (GT) and was previously a lead instructor with that organization teaching basic and advanced courses. The therapists at Elite PT are currently the only providers in the Grand Traverse Area who are certified GT providers. GT is a method of soft tissue mobilization used to break up scar tissue to relieve pain and improve myofascial and muscle tissue mobility. Joe has also had the privilege of training the medical staffs of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Twins, and Minnesota Golden Gophers in the Graston Technique.
Joe also founded the popular sports physical therapy site: SportsRehabExpert.com, the #1 online resource for sports and orthopedic rehabilitation and injury prevention. Through his work on the site, he has had the opportunity to meet, and learn from, some of the best clinicians and strength and conditioning professionals in the world. Joe has also been invited to speak at a number of physical therapy and sports performance conferences throughout the Midwest.
Joe has been blessed to be able to work along side his beautiful wife Melissa, who is the office manager. He also has three great kids that keep him running when he’s not focusing on conquering the physical therapy/sports performance world!
